FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Don't disturb them - and if possible try to put things back the way they were.

Don't panic - termites will not cause major damage overnight.

Don't try to spray them with a pressure pack or use other chemicals on them. This will have a very limited effect, and can scare them off for a while making it a lot more difficult for an expert to help you assess the situation.

FAQ - Health & Safety

Not all our pest control methods involve pesticides and sprays. Depending on the pest, and your circumstances, we can use methods that include physical modification of the environment and trapping to achieve results.

However when we do use pesticides, we select formulations and baits with the lowest toxicity available and focus our treatments on areas that keep these formulations away from you, your family and your pets.

We regularly service facilities that include hospitals and surgeries, child care centres and nursing homes.

Most “Natural Pest Control” businesses use EXACTLY the same products that we use. All pesticides have “natural” origins – the most commonly used today are the pyrethroids (extracted from certain types of flowers). We use the “man-made” versions of these pesticides in the majority of our treatments.

Depending on the pest, there may be a different set of strategies that can be used for control. These include placement of products in out-of-the-way places, environmental corrections and non-chemical options.

Please let us know – and we will do our best to tailor a solution that minimises the impact on you.

For a product to be effective against a pest, it has to be toxic for the pest we are treating. However, the range of products we use today are derived from natural sources or synthesized from natural derivatives.

A lot of the new generation products target parts of the insect biology that mammals either are not susceptible to, or at least our level of tolerance is far superior to the insect. So by careful selection, we can reduce the impact of our treatments on you, your family, and your pets.

FAQ - Treatments & Services

That really depends on the pest. All our treatments focus on the places where the particular pest will breed, hide or feed. In the majority of cases internal treatments are kept well away from contact with you. If you are concerned, our Amalgamated Pest Control technician can explain what will be done in your home before he starts. In most cases, treatments can be slightly modified if you have any major concerns.

This depends on the pest being treated. Generally you don't even have to leave the premises unless you are concerned. Our techniques are very localised and the technician will advise you where and when you can enter.

Generally speaking, once any liquid treatment has dried it is safe to enter the area that has just been treated.

Treatments that involve applying pesticides into the atmosphere or fine mists (such as flea treatments) will require you to leave the premises for a period of time.

With pest control, you cannot always find every nook and cranny that the pests are hiding. We design our treatments to try and stay one step ahead of the pests, however you can't always second-guess nature.

Our Service Warranties provide you with the peace of mind that should the pest problem arise during the period of the warranty, we will come back, re-inspect and if necessary re-treat specific areas to close the gate on the pest problem.

That's why we have the slogan "Guaranteed Gone. If they come back - so do we!".

Most of the formulations used in our treatments are odourless, however some still have solvent odours. We always try to use odourless products indoors.

Its good to know that the smell is never what is going to kill the pest - so odourless products are just as effective (if not more so) that many of the old style products that had odours.

If you have any concerns at all - please let your Amalgamated Pest Control technician know before they commence the service.

The only things we ask you to do is to remove and cover are open food packets. Our techniques are designed to carefully target specific areas, and we use special covers where required. Your safety is our concern. You are always welcome to discuss your special situation with the friendly staff at the time of booking or your technician prior to commencing the treatement.

Australian Standards AS 4349.3 and AS3660 series recommend a timber pest inspection at least every 12 months - but more frequently in higher risk regions.

Building practices over the last 20 years (slab-on-ground, pine frames & trusses etc), have to a large extent allowed termites to have the ‘upper hand’ in the battle against termite ingress to premises. Post-construction factors like landscaping often add risk.

What is not evident today, could become evident tonight or tomorrow. The common textbook term is that termites forage “randomly and continuously”.

For this reason, qualified, skilled and experienced Timber Pest Inspectors will find that much can change on a site, even of over 3 month period. Inf act, some homes have such a high combination of risk factors that we recommend inspections every 3 months.
